“One size cannot fit all” - Orton-Gillingham
Every student is an individual with his or her own unique learning style. and a personalised learning assessment will help tailor a programme of learning to the individual needs and abilities of each child. I have 30 years of experience teaching children with dyslexia as well as dyscalculia (math learning difficulties).
Caring and empathetic approach
We know that stress and anxiety interfere with learning. I establish a warm and nurturing relationship with my students in order to create a positive learning environment where they are free to learn from their mistakes, without fear of judgement. I use games in all my lessons to practice and reinforce skills as well as make learning enjoyable. I will also help children understand their own learning style and develop strategies which transfer into the classroom.
Roots to Learning
Underpinning learning is a core set of skills and abilities. Some of these roots to learning are:
language, memory, visual perception, vocabulary, processing speed, phonological awareness, listening comprehension, attention, fine motor skills, and spatial awareness.
You may not see them, but when these skills are not strong, reading, writing, and math will be affected.
Assessment & Consultation
Diagnostic teaching and assessment, targeted for each individual child. Range of assessments include reading, writing, spelling, math, and organisational and study skills. Following an initial assessment, parents will receive an personalized learning plan with recommended targets, materials, and teaching strategies.
